Healthy Youngsters, Healthy Dads® Online privacy statement

We take your privacy seriously.

The collection, management and use of your personal information by the University of Newcastle ABN 15 736 576 735 (the “University”, “we”“our”, and “us”) is governed by our  Privacy Management Plan, and we will only collect, use and disclose your information in accordance with the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (NSW) (the “Act”) and where applicable, the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 (NSW). To the extent of any inconsistency between this Privacy Statement and our Privacy Management Plan, the Privacy Management Plan will prevail.

The Act defines what is, and is not, personal information for the purposes of the Act. In circumstances where identifying information has been removed, the de-identified data is no longer considered personal information.

This Privacy Statement forms part of the “Terms and Conditions” of the Healthy Youngsters, Healthy Dads program.

What is Healthy Youngsters, Healthy Dads? ®

  1. The University has established the Healthy Youngsters, Healthy Dads  (“HYHD”) program to engage fathers in positive lifestyle role modelling and effective parenting strategies to improve the physical activity and dietary behaviours of themselves and their children. During the program, dads spend quality time with their kids participating in fun, engaging and educational activities that are beneficial to all aspects of their physical and mental health.

  2. The website provides a platform for users to register their interest in participating in upcoming programs, ask questions relating to the program or submit an expression of interest to be involved as a program facilitator or partner.

  3. The University may also run various research projects regarding HYHD. The University may require you to provide consent to take part in any HYHD research project or may have certain eligibility criteria for participants. Evidence of such consent must be supplied to the University upon request.

What information do we collect and what do we hold?

Individuals/participants

  1. People who register their interest, will provide personal information such as:

  • Name;

  • Email address

  • Mobile phone number

  • Postcode

2. Facilitators who register their interest to deliver the HYHD program will provide personal information such as:

  • Name;

  • Email address

  • Mobile phone number

  • Post code

We will also collect the following details:

  • Information around which program they are interested in.

  • Consent to share details with our partners that implement the program.

We will also collect the following details:

  • Information around which program they are interested in facilitating.

  • Consent to share details with our partners that implement the program.

  • How they heard about the program

  • Why they are interested in becoming a facilitator.

3. Partners who register their interest to implement the HYHD program will provide personal information such as:

  • Name;

  • Email address

  • Mobile phone number

We will also collect the following details:

  • The organisation they represent

  • Why they are interested in partnering

  • Their role in the organisation

  • How they heard about the program.

4. It may be necessary to collect other personal information or sensitive information to enable us to provide the HYHD program or to enable you to participate in a HYHD research project.

Individuals/participants

1.  You may choose not to provide us with the information we request but it may prevent you from registering your interest to attend the program, becoming a program facilitator or enquiring about the program.

 2. We take the security of data seriously and in accordance with our Privacy Management Plan obligations, we implement security safeguards to strive to secure and protect all information which we hold from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.

 3. Information is maintained in electronic form and is securely stored. Information is only accessed by authorised personnel using secure logins and passwords. All personnel are subject to confidentiality obligations in the management of your personal information. All data is held in Australia.

 4. Your personal information may be used for purposes including:

Why do we need your information?

  • Responding to your registration or enquiry;

  • Research and purposes related to it, including publications, conferences or other communication of research findings;

  • Teaching;

  • Data analysis and testing;

  • To assist in evaluating or improving HDHK, or as reasonably required to provide HYHD or undertake any related research;

  • To investigate possible breaches of the Terms and Conditions or Privacy Statement, or as required for law enforcement purposes or to comply with law; and

  • To facilitate internal business operations, such as quality assurance and administration purposes.

How do we use and disclose your personal information?

  1. If you self-register for the HYHD program as a participant, we will review your responses, and contact you regarding your eligibility and/or whether a position in a program is available.

  2. If you self-register for the HYHD program as a facilitator, we will review your responses, and contact you regarding your eligibility and/or whether a position in a facilitator training program is available.

  3. If you provide personal information through self-registration or a contact enquiry, we may use your personal information to communicate with you about other programs which we consider might be of interest to you. You may opt out of receiving these communications at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in the email or by emailing healthyyoungsters@newcastle.edu.au

  4. Your personal information will be de-identified before it is included in any teaching resources, publications, conferences or other communication of research findings.

  5. Your personal information will not be disclosed to third party organisations or individuals without your consent, unless required by or authorised by law, the Terms and Conditions or this Privacy Statement. However, your personal information may be provided to a facilitator to allow them to deliver the HDHK program or participate in a HDHK research project.
